We travelled from Raipur to meet the Ramnaami community, known for their deep devotion to Lord Ram. What touched me most was how their faith is expressed through design.

One story says a man named Parashurama was not allowed to enter a Ram temple because of his caste. Instead of stepping away from his faith, he tattooed the name “Ram” all over his body, including his face. His body became his temple. Another story says that during the Mughal period, when they were forced to move away from Ram, the whole village tattooed the name on their bodies. It became a shared identity.

From a design point of view, these are not just tattoos. They are a strong visual system
